Pastor delivers anti-gay rant, suggests building electric fence around ‘queers and homosexuals’

I was in China the week this story broke or I would have blogged about it.  Charles L. Worley of Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden, N.C., suggested rounding up all "queers and homosexuals" and quarantining them inside an electric fence.

"I figured a way to get rid of all the lesbians and queers," Worley told churchgoers on May 13. "Build a great big large fence—50 or 100 mile long—put all the lesbians in there. Fly over and drop some food. Do the same thing with the queers and the homosexuals and have that fence electrified so they can't get out. And you know what, in a few years, they'll die out. Do you know why? They can't reproduce!"

Evidently, he believes that all gays and lesbians are the product of homosexual parents.  I guess this is not any more scientifically ridiculous than the idea that dinosaurs and humans lived together in the Garden of Eden.

He also strongly suggested not voting for Barack Obama, which could get him into trouble. Religious organizations that claim tax-exempt status are not allowed to lobby for or against political candidates. I would prefer that no churches were tax exempt. However, in the meantime, we should definitely enforce the tax regulations that do exist.
