What evolution is not

I recently debated a creationist who raised a variant of that same tired argument against evolution:  "if we evolved from fish (or monkeys or apes), why are there still fish (or monkeys or apes)."  I wish I would have had this illustration at the time to explain my point that modern species are more like cousins than lineal ancestors.  Our only relationship to modern fish is that we shared a common ancestor.
