Creationism: ignorance or arrogance?

One canid, the domestic dog, a subspecies of the gray wolf, long ago entered into a partnership with humans and today remains one of the most widely kept domestic animals in the world.  Indeed, the great variety of dog breeds is the direct result of artificial selection (i.e., selective breeding).  If we can witness the striking results of artificial selection over a period of 10,000 years, why is it so difficult for believers to accept natural selection over billions of years?

I believe that ignorance and arrogance are to blame.  People remain willfully ignorant about evolution because they subconsciously know that it might change their world view. Arrogance is also a factor, because creationism gives people a false sense of importance about their place in the universe.
