From Bible-belt pastor to atheist leader
I was privileged to have met Jerry DeWitt at the national convention of American Atheists in May. I admire him not for not only his intelligence and wit, but also his genuine aura of caring that is unmistakable when you meet him in person. Jerry was a Louisiana preacher, who, in May 2011, woke up to the reality that he was an atheist. Understanding the trauma of losing ones' faith, he immediately devoted himself to helping others in the same predicament, including other members of the clergy. Jerry is active in the Clergy Project and Recovery from Religion.
A friend shared with me this recent article about Jerry's awakening and new evangelism.
