The corrupting influence of religion: groupthink

It is fairly well established that religions tend to promote in-group prejudice.  Conformity is a cardinal virtue of religious faith, particularly conformity to the dictates of an authority figure.  It is no wonder that believers tend to distrust and marginalize those who think differently.
