We're all pretty much blind and deaf

At a recent atheist convention, I had the pleasure of meeting Sean Faircloth, Dir. of Strategy & Policy at the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.  Sean made an interesting point that has stuck with me:
"In a country of the blind, the one-eyed man is King, but reason and science can give everyone glasses, thus making a problem for kings."
When you consider how little of the universe our senses are capable of capturing directly, we are lucky to have the tools of modern science, which are effectively "glasses" to correct our limited vision and free ourselves of the shackles of superstition.
